Support that starts with useful details.
If the overlay cannot sign in, hear audio, read screen context, or open billing, send the details below so support can help without asking for sensitive interview content.
Quick fixes
- Confirm you are signed in. The app intentionally locks behind the login panel when no valid token is available.
- Open Settings, select Account and Sync, then choose Refresh Plan if credits or plan details look stale.
- Run setup again from Settings if microphone, screen, or API checks fail.
- Confirm your API host is correct if you are testing against a staging backend.
- Restart the overlay after granting macOS microphone, screen recording, or system audio permissions.
Install, update, and uninstall
Use the signed installer for your operating system whenever possible. Public builds update through SteadySay's hosted release feed, so you should not need to download a new installer for every patch.
- macOS install: open the DMG, drag SteadySay into Applications, then launch it from Applications.
- Windows install: run the SteadySay Setup installer. It installs for the current user, creates shortcuts, and does not require administrator access.
- Updates: SteadySay checks for updates when it starts and while it is running. When an update is ready, choose Restart Now or let it install when the app quits.
- macOS uninstall: quit SteadySay, then move SteadySay from Applications to Trash.
- Windows uninstall: open Windows Settings, Apps, Installed apps, then uninstall SteadySay.
- Local data: uninstall keeps local settings and history by default. Use the in-app privacy/data controls before uninstalling if you want to remove local data too.
Permissions
SteadySay may need microphone and screen recording permissions depending on the capture mode you use. On macOS, open System Settings, then Privacy and Security, then grant access for SteadySay. On Windows, confirm microphone privacy settings allow desktop apps to use the microphone.
If system audio is unavailable on macOS, use the in-app setup guidance and confirm any virtual audio device setup before a live session.
Billing
Checkout and subscription management should happen through hosted Stripe pages. Open the desktop account panel and choose Upgrade to Pro or Manage Billing. If a billing portal link fails, include your account email and the time of the failed attempt in your support email.
Diagnostics
The app writes crash details to a local file named crash-log.txt in Electron userData. Packaged builds usually store it here:
- macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/SteadySay/crash-log.txt
- Windows: %APPDATA%\SteadySay\crash-log.txt
- Local development: interview-prep-coach-overlay-dev/crash-log.txt under your app data directory.
Do not send raw interview transcripts, resumes, or job documents unless support explicitly asks and you are comfortable sharing them.
Privacy-safe support
Support can usually debug with app version, OS version, configured API host, plan state, capture mode, and redacted error messages. If you request data deletion or export, use the account email associated with the subscription.
